A bit of history

Want to get to know us better? We’ve been around since 1976, so stick around and get to know us.

Caring for kids since 1976

At Early Discoveries, we provide a service that nurtures children and meets the demands of busy, working parents. We expose children to education, structure, and values that play a critical role in setting them up for life. We’ve been doing that for over 40 years, and we aim to keep doing it for 40 years more.

We started in the Manurewa, South Auckland community as a play group way back in 1976 in a local Presbyterian church. We started by running three mornings with three teachers. Within a number of years, we outgrew the local church and needed to find a bigger place. We found a house right next door and with help from the Ministry of Education we turned it into an Early Childhood Centre in 2001, called Early Discoveries Centre Manurewa.

Right from the start, we wanted to be community focused, so we decided to be a not-for-profit organisation. We remain that way today.

A story of growth.

Before too long we were outgrowing this location too, so in 2011 we chose to set up another purpose-built early childhood centre on the corner of Weymouth Primary School; Early Discoveries Centre Weymouth.

Over this time, we’ve continued to be community centred, with any profits going back into our centres. Our child care centres are well known in the community, and we have taught well over 3000 tamariki in the Manurewa, Clendon and Weymouth areas!
